Taxes

Tax bills are mailed the first week in May.

The Town of Georgetown currently accepts Master Card, Visa, and Discover. Online payments can be made by using the Town's website.

Make checks, money orders, or cashier checks payable to: Town of Georgetown 37 The Circle Georgetown DE 19947 Note: Please provide property tax/map/parcel number when making payment to ensure payment is applied to the proper account.

The penalty rate is 5% per month, or fraction thereof, on any unpaid principal balance only.

By contacting the Town of Georgetown Finance Department, the complaint will be researched. The process takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to receive a refund.

The Town of Georgetown does not forward tax bills to the property owner's mortgage company. It is the property owner's responsibility to ensure their mortgage company pays their taxes timely each year. Escrow contracts are between the property owner and their mortgage company.

Address changes for real estate taxes are handled by the Town Administrative Office. The Town requires a change of address form to be filled out and signed by the property owner before any changes are made to an account. You may find the form on this website under Forms and Applications.

Property taxes are billed on the Town's fiscal year - May 1 to April 30

Payments will be reversed off of the account. Your account will also be charged a $30 returned check fee. The Town of Georgetown does not re-deposit checks.

When payment is received and credited to an account, that account is automatically updated with the payment. If a duplicate payment is received, the payment system will show a zero amount due. The duplicate payment will be returned to the mortgage company, at which time the property owner should contact the mortgage company to receive a refund or credit (and vice versa if the mortgage company paid first, then the property owner mailed in a payment).

Applications for a Town of Georgetown Business License are available at the Town Administrative office located at 37 The Circle. The form is also available on the Town's website under Forms and Applications.

A business license is required when a person or company engages in business within the Town limits of Georgetown regardless of the location of the originating office. See Chapter 130, Section 2 of the Town General Code.
